This 3 day trekking trip to Sapa offers the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular landscapes of the Hoang Lien mountain range, Nam Sai Valley and to experience the unique culture, custom and way of living of the Hmong, Zao, Tay and Xa Pho ethnics. Two nights home stay in villages of the Tay and Zao ethnic for local life experiences.

This 3 day trekking trip to Sapa offers the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular landscapes of the Hoang Lien mountain range, Nam Sai Valley and to experience the unique culture, custom and way of living of the Hmong, Zao, Tay and Xa Pho ethnics. Two nights home stay in villages of the Tay and Zao ethnic for local life experiences. The 3 day trip takes you to such Sapa tribal villages as Nam Toong village, Nam Sang village, Ban Sai village, Nam Nhiu, Nam Than, Sin Chai, Nam Cum, Muong Bo. This is a medium trek suitable for most customers with average strength and mobile ability without any treking experience. However there is a long ascend on day 1 where the trail often become very slippery in rainy days. In this case, alternative option is taking the larger rocky path which runs along the Nam Sai stream. Trekking distance every day is short so that to offer more time for meeting local peoples.

Trekking Trip Sapa Itinerary

Day 1: Sapa – Nam Toong – Nam Sang – Ban Sai (L,D).

Leaving Sapa at 8.30 am, you will be transferred by road 26km for approx.1 hour to Thanh Phu Bridge with some stops along the way for marvelous scenery of Hoang Lien mountain range and Muong Hoa valley. The trek starts from Thanh Phu bridge(392m) uphill along a steep trail for 1,5 hour to Nam Toong Village of the Red Zao(679m). Walking around to explore the village as well as paying visiting to local homes for understanding local way of living. Leaving Nam Toong for Nam Sang along a narrow trail which sneaks on high elevation of a mountain range with a series of short ascends and descends for 3 hours. Enjoy picnic lunch along the way. Reach to Nam Sang village(625m) of the Xa Pho peoples in mid afternoon, spend half an hour to explore this charming village which beautifully sits near the bottom of Nam Sai valley. Later, enjoy an easy walk for nearly an hour through Nam Sai valley heading to Ban Sai village(570m) and arriving to this large and prosperous village of the Tay in late afternoon, spend the rest hours of the day to explore this village.

Day 2: Ban Sai – Nam Nhiu – Nam Than 2 – Sin Chai (B,L,D)

Breakfast and leave Ban Sai at about 9.00 am. Trekking along a large & rocky path uphill to Nam Nhiu village of the Red Zao(870m) and then continue along a dirt path for 1,5 hour to Nam Than Village of the Red Zao and Black Hmong(865m). This portion of the trek offers stunning view of Nam Sai and Nam Cang Valleys as well as chances to understand life of tribal peoples in remotest region of Sapa. Leaving Nam Than for an hour through wild land dotting with terraced fields amongt mountain and rain forest. After lunch, continue trekking for 2, 5 hours in the afternoon along the same trail passing through the cultivated hilly land of Suoi Thau Commune to Sin Chai B Village of the Red Zao(733m). Check in home-stay, having a short rest and easy walk to explore this small and quiet village.

Day 3: Sin Chai – Nam Cum – Muong Bo – Thanh Phu Bridge – Sapa (B,L)

It is an easy day, today with not much challenge. Breakfast and leave Sin Chai B at 09.00 am. Enjoy an easy walk along a large and rocky path for 2 hours to Nam Cum village(656m). This portion offers stunning scenery of Suoi Thau Valley. Nam Cum Village of the Red Zao which consists of some 30 households scattering around an isolated valley. Explore the village and then lunch break. Afternoon trek gets along a large dirt trails gradually descending on the mountain side for 1,5 hour to Muong Bo village of the Tay ethnic, which located near the bottom of Thanh Phu valley(527m). Quite different from the Zao and H’mong, the Tay live a sedentary life and earn their living by growing rice on wet land for long time. So their villages are always larger, tidier than those of the Zao and Hmong. Spend half an hour to pay visiting to this prosperous village before taking the last descent for an hour to Thanh Phu Bridge(392m). Picked up and transfer 26km uphill back to Sapa. Trip end.
