Muong Lay district covers an area of 1826 square kilometres. It contains 1 township and 14 communes including Muong Lay, Cha Nua, Cha To, Huoi Leng, Hua Ngai, Ma Thi Ho, Muong Muon, Muong Tung, Na Sang, Nam Khan, Pa Ham, Phin Ho, Sa Long, Sa Tong, and Si Pa Phin.

Getting to Muong Lay district

Muong Lay is well known with Da River that flows through and the place where settled the Thai Trang (White Thai) Ethnic Group. Muong Lay is called the princess of the North West of Vietnam with her charming beauty that captivates everyone.

Traveling by road from Hanoi to Muong Lay is a great way to discover the north west Vietnam. Take the national road #6 Hanoi, Son La to Muong Lay. You can also reach this area by following the other national road #32 or the new highway from Hanoi to Lai Chau, then to Muong Lay. The stretch of road goes uphill and downhill alternately with many sharp bends.

The district climate is monsoon tropical in altitude with low temperature and few rain in winter, hot and heavy rain in summer, Vietnam weather. Average annual temperature is 21-230C, lowest temperatures occur from December to February of the following year (14-180C), from April to September average temperature is 250C. Dry season lasts from October to April of the following year.
